One Week to New Orleans

One week from today, I'll be landing in New Orleans to begin my fellowship. I'm excited, nervous, but most of all - CURIOUS. What will I see and hear? What will these new students tell me, what are their stories? And what story will we create to tell our bigger story, the story of a people ravaged by water and government irresponsiblity. What does all of that mean when you're just a kid? I'm putting together lesson plans, theatre exercises, design projects - lots of stuff so that, wherever they take me, I can meet them along the way. I'll be spending all day (8:30-3:00) with four different groups. The community center separates them by gender, which is very different from the way I've been teaching. Again - CURIOUS. And awesome! I have stories and songs, rhythm jams and poems. This week will speed past and next week, at this time, I'll be telling you about my flight to New Orleans and my first authentic po' boy!
